West Orange Secular Augustinian Recollects Receive Four Novices
The Saint Cloud Chapter of the Secular Augustinian Recollect Fraternity at the provincial residence in West Orange, New Jersey, was established thirty-six years ago through the initiative of a very special lady, Ethel Cahill, with the guidance of Fr. John Oldfield, OAR. Today, under the direction of its current spiritual assistant, the chapter is still growing and continues to be an inspiration to all its members. At the monthly meeting of the fraternity on April 21, 2013, Helene Ilg, director of formation, and the members of Saint Cloud Chapter formally admitted four novices: Maria Di Sena, Ernesto de Guzman, Fedelia Nwangwa, and Antoinetta Santomo. The new candidates will formally make their promises as lifetime members of the fraternity next spring, after the completion of their one-year trial period.
Annual End-of-Season Luncheon
Each year the Saint Cloud Chapter ends its season with a luncheon and renewed friendship. This year was no exception. Despite the threat of thunderstorms on May 11, the members enjoyed one another’s companionship and a sumptuous luncheon, Italian style, at Due Amici (Two Friends) Restaurant in West Orange, bringing to mind what St. Augustine had said: “Life and friendship are nature’s gifts. Two things are necessary in this life: health and a friend.”
West Orange SARs Attend Father Oldfield’s Jubilee
A large representation of West Orange Secular Augustinian Recollects attended the celebration of the fiftieth jubilee of ordination to priesthood of Fr. John Oldfield, OAR, in Suffern, New York, on July 20. The Chapter’s spiritual assistant, Fr. Charles Huse, OAR, gave the homily for the occasion.
