Tagaste Monastery is the post-novitiate house of studies for the Province of Saint Augustine. Father Francisco Sandoval, OAR, prior, and his community have adjusted their community schedule so that a longer time might be given to Eucharistic adoration for vocations. Now a full hour of adoration is celebrated by the community each Sunday with Evening Prayer. In addition to this practice, on the last Sunday of each month the Monastery hosts three hours of Exposition. Special prayers are offered during the final hour, followed by Evening Prayer and Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Members of the Secular Augustinian Recollect Fraternity and Sunday Mass worshippers join the friars in this prayer.

The Tagaste Community has undertaken new methods in vocation recruitment. The friars have begun contacting campus ministries at different colleges and universities in New York State. Vocation formation, retreat information, and general information concerning our Order and province have been posted on student bulletin boards. This information includes the recent vocation poster published by the province. Included among the colleges and universities contacted are Fordham University, Saint Thomas Aquinas College, Dominican College, Mount Saint Mary College, Mount Saint Vincent College, Manhattan College, Iona College, Concordia College, and Ramapo College. In addition to this, different parishes in Rockland and Westchester Counties (Archdiocese of New York) have been visited by the friars, ad several pastors have allowed Recollect vocation information to be published in their parish bulletins. As fruit of these endeavors, Tagaste Monastery held a day of recollection for young men discerning a religious vocation on April 28. The friars have scheduled a weekend vocation retreat for July of this year and plan to visit other colleges and universities in the area. Father Francisco writes, “All the while we will continue to pray before the Blessed Sacrament for an increase of vocations.”
